Alt Binz Setup Guide for Easynews

This guide will walk you through setting up Alt.Binz to work with Easynews servers. If you haven't already signed up for Usenet access then consider Easynews. They offer 1,330 days of binary retention, SSL encryption and web Usenet access. Easynews is currently offering new customers a 14 day, 10 GB free trial so if you haven't signed up for Usenet access this is a great chance to get started.

Note: If you want to connect to Easynews web access then you do not need to setup a newsreader client. Instead follow one of these links to get started:

Download Alt Binz

Visit the Alt.Binz newsreader homepage (AltBinz.net) to download the latest version of the client.

Install Alt.Binz

The installation is simple. Choose a folder for the program to install and whether or not you want desktop or quick launch icons.

Configure Alt.Binz for Easynews

Once Alt.Binz opens you can define the rest of the server setup. To do so right click Default server and then click Server properties:

Now you can enter in the server information in the screen below:

A - Clicking on Servers to the left brings up the server properties screen including everything you need to get up and running. Simply enter the information as follows:
B - Name: anything you want
C - Connections: Easy News supports up to 50 connections.
D - Address: news.easynews.com or secure.news.easynews.com (SSL)
E - Port: use port 563 or 81 for secure or port 119, 22, 23, 53, 80, 110, or 443 for standard connections.
F - Check "(SSL)" for secure access.
G - Check "Server requires authentication"
H - Enter Username provided in email
I - Enter Password prvided in email
J - click "Add as primary"
