Faster Access to Easynews via Easyboost

NGR news: August 21, 2009

Easynews launched a new web acceleration feature called "Easyboost". The web accelerator will allow customers to increase speed (throughput) to the Easynews site. The feature is available to current customers (and new customers for a limited time) free of charge. Easynews is also offering a 14 day free trial for those who would like to test the service with Easyboost.

We haven't had a chance to try out the Easyboost feature yet but are very impressed with the beta testing results. An update will follow this post with our first impressions.  In the meantime here is the announcement from Easynews:

Easynews Announces Plans to Launch Easyboost

August 21, 2009 – Easynews, the world’s premiere Web-based Usenet site, today announced plans to launch Easyboost—a Web acceleration feature that can significantly increase access speeds from the Easynews website.

Easyboost uses a combination of software and purpose-built servers to optimize the TCP/IP throughput for downloads.  Survey data shows that using Easyboost with the Fast4 method accelerated throughput for Easynews HTTP connections by an average of nearly 100%.  88% of all Beta users experienced accelerated downloads by at least one of the 5 Easyboost methods.

The following chart illustrates average speed increases among these methods with the Fast4 configuration demonstrating the most significant increase.

EasyBoost

Look for this exciting new feature from Easynews to be available very soon.  Best of all, Easyboost will be free to all existing, loyal users.  For a limited time, new subscribers can experience the Easyboost feature free of charge.  Later this year, Easyboost will be available to new subscribers as an add-on feature for an additional monthly fee.

September 1st update

Here is the September 1st announcement from Easynews releasing the new feature to all customers:

Sept. 1, 2009 – Easynews, the world’s original Web-based Usenet site, today launched Easyboost – a service feature that can significantly increase download rates from the Easynews member website. Easyboost uses a combination of TCP congestion control algorithms, proprietary software and purpose-built servers to optimize the TCP/IP throughput for downloads.

Through months of Beta testing, survey data shows that using Easyboost with the Fast4 method accelerated downloads with Easynews HTTP connections by an average of 100%. 88% of all Beta users experienced accelerated downloads by at least one of the five Easyboost methods. Effects are most dramatic for users with higher latency connections.

Easynews will offer this feature at no charge to all existing, loyal users. For a limited time, new subscribers can experience the Easyboost feature free of charge. Later this year, Easyboost will be available to new subscribers as an add-on feature for an additional monthly fee.

For a limited time, Easynews is offering a
14-day free Usenet trial. Register now to test the new Easyboost feature by visiting www.Easynews.com.

We will soon post our own positive results in a review of Easyboost so check back in a couple days for more information.
