Giganews announced in early July that after their latest storage upgrade they would be increasing their binary retention from 120 days to 200 days by the end of the summer. They are already at 160 days binary retention and continue to increase toward the goal of 200 days binary retention!
Giganews also released Giganews Accelerator which is a software based news proxy that allows users to compress headers and enables 256 bit SSL encryption even if your newsreader doesn’t natively support SSL. All authentication and commands are encrypted which could significantly increase speeds for customers whose ISP’s throttle NNTP traffic.
